THE HIGH & LOW ROAD TO ILKLEY.
Leave Wesley St Car Park, Silsden, and go up Bolton Rd towards Addingham. Just past the electricity sub-station turn right up the Signed Path, up the side of the allotments. At the top, go over the stile, up the field side, over the stile at the top into ”ginnel” or walled path, over the stile at the top, and bear left on the path past Haw Farm. Cross over the road, and up the farm track passing High Swartha Farm. Follow the way marks at the top to the left along the wall, up Brownbank, turning right through two stiles, on the path through the Caravan Park, at the end go over the stile, then go up field to the stile at the top. Cross the road, over the stile opposite, then over the stile in the wall to the right across the field. Go left and then straight forward over three more stiles, and fields in line to Slade House over the wall stile and then left to a further stile into Moorside Lane, go right on the road leading to Addingham Moorside. On reaching the end at Upper Gatecroft Farm, turn right on the track; continue on to pass through the yard of Crag House Farm, through two gates. Follow the well defined path, then through the stile on the left. Go on over the fields toward the woods then cross the stile in the facing wall on the left. Pass the house on the left, through the electric gate and down the road, turning right up the path at Heber’s Ghyll. This is a landscaped ravine, all winding paths and bridges, with some rare trees and shrubs, at the top is an ideal spot for a break for lunch. Afterwards take the path to the right to the moor top path along the escarpment, on the way examine the “Swastika Stone” a relic of ancient people, the use of which is open to speculation, Boundary Marker, way marker you name it! Continue over several stiles until at the Silsden Boundary, you pick up the yellow and red markers go on down Whindgate Nick over the stile at the bottom, then left on the path to The Nab down to Lightbank Lane. Go left to first path on right, down the fields to the gate into North End Farm. Pass the front of the farm, and then go right down the fields over two stiles, turn right over the stile, then down the field to the right bottom corner and over the stile, up the field to the stile and following the way marks pass High Swarth Farm then re-trace your steps back to Silsden.
