WALK No.13. Approx 13 MILES. A FULL DAY WALK! “THE SILSDEN CIRCUIT”
From the Canal Bridge in Silsden, take the towpath towards Keighley. At Booths Bridge (opposite Keighley golf course) Cross the bridge and go up, turning left across The Club House of Riddlestone Golf Club. Keeping to the left hand wall, go to the top, then again follow the wall side to the gate, going left up the path, and over a wall stile at the top into Alder Carr Wood. Follow the path to the right through the wood and when nearly at the end, go down a path on the left (marked), turning right at the bottom, along the wall to and over a stile and a field to Holden Lane. Go right up the hill over a stile on the left, then on the path, keeping to left (way marked) up Jacob’s Wood, At the top go over the stile, then forward, through the gate to the Waterfall and Ford at Lumb Bridge. Go over the bridge to the right of the Aqueduct up the hill, and at the top turn right, through the gate into the lane to a gate on the left (marked) follow lane round the farm buildings to the road, then go right along the road passing Ghyll Grange Farm to (after a while) Far Ghyll Grange Farm. At this point go through the gate at the back of the farm, and up the fields (marked) into the yard of Doubler Stones Farm. After leaving go over the road, then up the moor, The Doubler Stones on the right make a nice spot for a break. Then go on up the moor through the gate, forward over a wall stile, continue on to the top of the escarpment before turning left on the path, and going down Whingate Nick. At the bottom over the stile, then go left on the path to, and down The Nab End into Lightbank Lane, turn right and at the end cross the road and go up passing Sea Moor House on the bridleway to a stile in the wall in front of you (where the bridleway turns right). Go on down the fields over three more stiles all in line down to Fishbeck Lane. Turn right on the lane, at the end cross Bolton Road, then go left a few yards, follow the path through the yard of Low Cringles Farm (marked) turning right, over a number of stiles but keeping to the field side, up the valley, down the path and over the bridge in Great Ghyll, keep on to the right over a boggy section turn left at the wall in front, and over the stile on right. Follow the path up the steep banking and turn left at the top, then up the fields, through the marked gates around Foster Cliff Farm North, cross the drive, then go down the path to the bridge and stile on the left, carry on along the field top, passing Foster Cliff Farm South then over the stile, turning right over a further stile at the field top and into the road. Turn left to a wall stile on the right and up the fields, through the gates, stiles and turn to the right at the road, then at the top turn left to the stile in a gateway on the left. Go on down the fields to Lower Heights Farm, and follow the way marks to the left of the buildings, down the cart track, at the bottom go through the gate, and go straight forward, then over a wall stile in front across the field. Carry straight on over the stiles and bridge into Hole Lane. Turn to right up the road to the wall stile on the left, and follow the path to the bottom left corner of the field through the stile in the corner at the hedge bottom, then straight through the gate opposite. Follow the path to left down the fence side, over the stile at the bottom, down to the stile and across the forded stream. Continue up the path to the right, over the stile (way marked) then up the field to the derelict Tar Topping Farm. Go left down the field side, at the bottom over the stile in the wall on the right. Cross the field diagonally to the fence stile then turn left down the lane to the road, turning right to the stile on the left near the gate. Go down the fields over the stiles to Wood-side Farm, and then follow way marks round the farm to the canal bridge and then on the towpath back to Silsden.
